Holy Week 2017-03-28T14:45:18+00:00

HolWeek at Aldersgate

Palm Sunday, April 9 at 9 and 11 am

Join us in celebrating Jesus Triumphant Entry with palm branches. At the beginning of each Worship service (9 & 11), the children will parade in with palms to help us celebrate Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. All children are invited! Children should meet Rachel Miller in the Narthex (the area right outside the front of the Sanctuary) 3 minutes before Worship. We will have a palm for each child.

Maundy Thursday, April 13 at 7pm

A Tenebrae Service of Darkness with Holy Communion and Stripping of the Altar, based on a twelfth-century late night/early morning service and is an extended meditation on the passion of Christ.

Good Friday, April 14 at 7pm

A worship service of dramatic readings and experiences that uses visual art, theater and music to tell the story of Jesus’ path to Calvary through scripture. Walk in Jesus’ foot-steps as he bears our sins as a burden on the cross in order to prepare for the way for Salvation. This service has graphic visuals and video clips that may not be appropriate for young eyes. Please use parental discretion and be aware that a fully staffed nursery is available during the worship service. Come and witness, God’s gift of His only son through this emotional journey to the cross

Holy Saturday Day of Prayer, April 15, 6am to 6pm

On Holy Saturday the Church waits.  When the tomb was sealed there was sadness and uncertainty and silence.  You are invited to come to the Sanctuary at anytime between 6am and 6pm, and reflect on the events of Holy Week, the suffering and death of Christ and pray.  We still deal with uncertainty, suffering and things that seem to make no sense in our lives – come and set aside some time to be in prayer and in relationship with our Savior.

Holy Saturday Hike, April 15 at 9am

We will meet in the church parking lot at 9 am (planning to carpool), and drive to Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive to hike Stony Man Mountain Hike.  It’s a gentle 3.7 mile hike with some great views.  Bring a bag lunch and 2 water bottles.  If interested in going, please notify Laura Nelson at LNelson582@aol.com or 434-227-0340.

Easter Sunday, April 16 at 9 and 11am

Join us for our Resurrection Sunday Celebration as our children “release our Hallelujahs” and enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt.

Our annual Children’s Easter Celebration begins at 10:00am in the Reed Room. Our celebration includes crafts and games. Shortly before 10:30 we will all hear the Easter story, read by some of our children, we’ll then form a parade and head down to the playground for the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt! Please join us! Don’t forget your Easter baskets and your friends!

(Please note, there is no Children’s Church during either Worship service on Easter Sunday so that our children and our dedicated volunteers may Worship with their families on this special occasion. Nursery care will be provided during both Worship services.)
